The impact of paper selection on book printing

As a printing company staff, we know that there are many factors affecting the quality of printed matter. As a printing substrate, paper is of course an important factor affecting the quality. However, as a customer chooses paper for his company, he often does not know how to print. Not to mention the paper for book printing, it is difficult to choose a printing paper suitable for the characteristics of its company. As for us, we can't say which kind of paper is high-grade and recommend it to customers. Instead, professional advice should be given to customers based on past printing experience.

A good sample of the album is more helpful to express the company's brand image, corporate culture and product market positioning. Then you want to print high-quality (colorful, rich) album printing, it is very important to choose the right printing paper. of. If it is not used properly, there will be many problems such as poor image quality. Basically, the quality of book printing can be divided into eight factors: ink, printing paper, printing machine, roller lining, printing environment, printing plate factors, fountain solution, and operating factors. So what are the aspects of paper that affect the quality of book printing?

    1. The quantification of paper, commonly known as "gram weight." The higher the basis weight of the paper, the thicker the paper and vice versa. Its height will directly affect the tensile strength, tightness, tearing, bursting, thickness, transparency and other properties of the paper. Therefore, it is important to select different weights of paper according to different book printing requirements. The most common corporate brochure printing is basically coated paper or matte paper printing, which has: 105g, 128g, 157g, 200g, 250g, 300g.

    2. The smoothness of the paper. The smoothness of the paper is an important factor in whether the graphic is clear. Printed on a smooth surface, the prints are clear, neat, and well-defined. In addition, the paper has two sides, even if it is printed with the same amount of ink and the same offset printing machine, the front image clarity and the like are higher than the reverse side. Therefore, you should choose a smooth paper to improve the printing quality. (The direction of the silk of the paper should also be given special attention)

    3. The whiteness of the paper. There are many types of printed paper, the most commonly used is white, the whiteness is different, and it has different effects on the color of the printed ink layer. If the whiteness of the paper is too low, the paper will have a certain color and grayscale increase; the whiteness is too high, and the color and tone layer of the image are flat.

    4. Paper absorbs ink. The same ink, the same hue. Under the same conditions, there are different printing effects for papers with different absorbivities, and the difference affects the color difference of the ink layers. Too strong, the print ink color is easy to fade, lack of gloss; too weak, will cause the ink to adhere not firmly, the ink on the surface of the print can not be dried in time, easy to smear (pay special attention to this when you are in a hurry).

    5. Resistance. That is, after the final printing of the finished product, various adverse factors encountered during the use process, the tolerance of the printing paper.

    6. The hydrophilicity of the paper. In the printing process, controlling the moisture of the printing paper is also one of the key factors. To adapt to the characteristics of the paper, the humidity of the workshop should be controlled within a certain range, and the paper should be sent to the workshop in advance to balance the temperature and humidity of the workshop. The moisture of the printing paper is low enough to maintain its good electrical conductivity and facilitate the transfer of ink.

Of course, the influence of paper on printing quality is not limited to the above points. Because paper performance changes with environment, time and process conditions in many cases, the correct choice of album sample printing paper, considering the influence of various factors on the quality of the finished book. According to the final effect of the desired effect, it is not only better to improve the printing quality, but also to improve production efficiency.
